Super Bowl 50 Odds Update for Week 17 of the 2015-16 NFL Season
Every playoff team is locked in, except for two – the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets. The Jets truly do control their own destiny. They currently have the final wild card spot and with a win over Buffalo this week, they’ll punch their ticket. However, should the Pittsburgh Steelers take down the mighty Cleveland Browns, they’ll move ahead to the playoffs. Obviously the odds are in Pittsburgh’s favor against Manziel and the Browns. However, the Bills haven’t been a lock once this season and the Jets are riding a huge high after taking down the Patriots last weekend.
NFL Week 17 odds update – AFC has last seat up for grabs!
AFC Playoff Potential – Pittsburgh Steelers (-10) at Cleveland Browns (+10)
The Steelers and Browns are two teams that have been borderline all year long. Pittsburgh has been borderline inconsistent, while Cleveland is borderline awful. That Ohio borderline by the way, is pretty thin. The Steelers had the Browns number earlier in the year, putting up a 30-9 in Steeltown. Big Ben put up 379 yards with three touchdowns and a pick. Manziel wasn’t awful, but he wasn’t great. He put up 372 yards with a touchdown and a pick.
Both ground games were terrible in that tilt as well. The Steelers only put up 60 yards, while the Browns only managed 15. If the Steelers win, their Super Bowl odds will go up. However, at the moment Pittsburgh is showing +1,000 odds to leave the year with a ring. Not amazing but in the AFC, anything goes. The NFC is a bigger challenge because teams will inevitably have to go through the Carolina Panthers and-or Arizona Cardinals.
Pittsburgh needs this win and it’s basically a lock. The only way they will miss the playoffs, should the Jets lose in Buffalo, is if they repeat their performance of last week and lose to another bottom feeder.
AFC Playoff Potential – New York Jets (-3) at Buffalo Bills (+3)
The New York Jets are a team destined for something big. Not something great, but definitely something bigger than the 7th spot in the AFC. This team started their backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick all year. They added a tremendous and necessary receiver in Brandon Marshall. And they added a new head coach to the sideline in Todd Bowles. The only thing standing in their way of something better, is former head coach Rex Ryan and the Buffalo Bills.
The Bills lost their playoff hopes a few weeks ago and now they have a chance to give the Jets the gift of missing the playoffs in the final week. If the Bills can pull out the home win and the Steelers can down Cleveland, it’s all over for New York.
The Bills do already have one win over their AFC East rivals this season. They took out the Jets at the Meadowlands back in November by a score of 22-17. Remember the infamous “color blindeness game”? Thankfully, the teams will be wearing their regular uniforms for this game.
Should the Jets win, expect their +2,800 SB futures to sky rocket. The odds will be in their favor heading into the playoffs as well. They’ll likely have to play New England in the first round. The same Patriot team they just knocked off last week by a score of 26-20.
